Purpose:
The University of Kansas Medical Center General Clinical Research Center
provides investigators and their staff the clinical infrastructure to conduct
patient-oriented research.
Location:
The GCRC outpatient unit is located on the ground floor of the Delp Building,
Room G040.
Resources:
There are 5 patient exam rooms, a cognitive testing room, and an infusion room
with a TV. In addition, there is a lab processing/storage area with a
centrifuge and -70 freezer, a reception/waiting area, and patient lounge area
with TV. Administrative offices and workstations for research nurses, study
coordinators, and investigators are located across the hall.
Operating Hours:
The GCRC outpatient unit will be open from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through
Friday.
Scheduling:
Subjects must be scheduled in advance with the GCRC Nurse Manager. Reservations
are made on a first come, first serve basis. Scheduling/booking an appointment
is based on availability of space and nursing personnel. When booking an
appointment, please have at least two dates in mind.
Medical Record Management:
GCRC outpatient charts are stored in a locked file in the outpatient unit. They
are organized in alphabetical order by protocol number. Documents found in the
charts include flowsheets, subject registration form, consents, progress notes,
and lab results received by the GCRC. Charts are accessible during working
hours. Charts may not be removed from the GCRC. Typically, the GCRC chart is
separate from the patient’s study file that is kept by the investigator. The
GCRC chart is necessary for GCRC documentation purposes. However, there may be
instances in which the GCRC chart could also serve as the primary research
study file, particularly in small investigator-initiated unfunded pilot
projects.
